#1- Sports Nutrition Therapy
#2- Optimize Muscle Function, Improve Joint Mechanics, & Reduce Stress
#1- Sports Nutrition Therapy
When athletes train, they injure muscles to encourage them to develop stronger, faster, and conditioned for performance. After a training or working out your body will move resources into any area you trained to remove damaged tissue, make repairs and rebuild damaged tissue. This can involve bone, ligament, cartilage, and/or muscle. The availability of nutrients is dependent upon your diet and your habits. Nutrient availability is altered when you are already injured, sore, fatigued, stressed out, or haven’t eaten. This is due to the adaptive processes necessary to manage these stresses. These adaptive processes require high amounts of minerals, vitamins, and fats to maintain your health. These same factors are needed to support healthy bone, joint and muscle function as well as to help them recover after training. Management of these resources is the metabolic component to athletic performance and the reason why Sports Nutrition Therapy is recommended for all athletes to improve performance and reduce injury risk. Most people (especially young athletes) who are healthy may not have current lab work. This is because most doctors read lab work to identify disease. Dr. Robles has reviewed thousands of lab markers and learned to identify dysfunction before disease is even present. By applying the principles of functional medicine to sports nutrition therapy, Dr. Robles is able to help athletes optimize performance.
The first step is blood work to see where your health stands presently and ensure that there are no long standing problems may be negatively affecting your health and performance. This can be ordered through my office or through another primary care doctor. However, if your doctor is not trained in evaluating lab work for functional deficiencies on lab work, I would recommend working with my office directly even though our lab tests may not be covered by your insurance.

#2- Optimize Muscle Function, Improve Joint Mechanics, & Reduce Stress
The Response Rate of your muscles measures how quickly the muscle responds to pressure or force. When a muscle does not respond appropriately it may feel weak, even though it is physically strong. There are many different causes for this inhibited (decreased functional) state of a muscle. It is the doctor’s job to identify this and correct it. Additionally, if there is a relationship with response rate function and your diet or lifestyle choices, then the doctor must discuss this with you (Sports Nutrition Therapy). After therapy, the response rate should change immediately in the healthy athlete. This improved function allows for better performance, reduced injury risk, and less “off” games. Performance Therapy involves making sure that your brain communicates well with your muscles and can move your body without interference. By optimizing nervous system communication with the body, athletic performance can be improved more efficiently with training activities and exercise.
